East of England

East Anglia's long coastline has always been especially vulnerable to seaborne attack from Europe. It's beached, backed only by dunes or low cliffs are, difficult to defend, providing a tempting landing ground for invaders. Much of this area's history is therefore enshrined in its coastal defences.
