South Lodge
Battle Abbey
Sleeps 4 + cot
This single storey stone-built former gatehouse has something of a Hansel and Gretel feel about it with partly leaded glass windows, and an enclosed and secluded garden. But it is the setting that is unbeatable: the cottage looks out over the very field where the most famous and influential battle in British history was fought. Guests have free access to the battle field and, during public opening hours, can walk through the Abbey grounds to the attractive high street in Battle.
South Lodge has one double and one twin bedroom. There is a dining room/sitting room and a separate kitchen. The bathroom has a shower over the bath.
As well as direct access to the Battlefield, South Lodge has its own gardens, where you can while away the hours soaking up the sun and the atmosphere of the location.
A brand new visitor centre houses an excellent exhibition and video presentation on the background and events leading up to the Battle of Hastings. This will fill in any knowledge gaps and set the scene for the walk which follows the progress of the great battle.
