The Nigel Temple Postcard Collection
The Nigel Temple Collection comprises of over 5,000 postcards that feature public parks and gardens, including Italianate, rose, rustic, and seaside gardens.
For more than a decade Dr Temple has worked to bring the collection together and now this important archive is stored, catalogued and made available by the National Monuments Record.
The majority of the postcards in the collection date from c. 1900 to the 1910's and show landscapes, waterscapes, park buildings and types of planting. Many also feature people and provide an illustration of the social history of public parks and gardens.
The following gallery of postcards has been kindly reproduced from the National Monuments Record exhibition 'Workers' Playtime' in 2002.
