The shell of a 17th century mansion with magnificent views, Houghton House was built as a hunting lodge for Mary, Dowager Countess of Pembroke. A mixture of Jacobean and Classical styles, with two Italianate loggias, the house was later converted to become the principal family seat of the Bruce family.
