Identification of additional parks and gardens of special historic interest
The Register is still a young designation and by no means fully comprehensive. As a first step towards filling the gaps, between 1994 and 1999 English Heritage carried out a programme of county-based surveys in partnership with local authorities and other locally-based organisations. Using these, shortlists of parks and gardens which may be of sufficient historic interest to merit registration have been drawn up for all counties. Our restricted resources prevent us from carrying out the final assessment of all the sites on the shortlists, but these can be considered individually as the need arises.
Suggestions for sites which might merit consideration for registration as part of our long-term review work are welcome.
