Old Sarum

High above Salisbury Plain and only a few miles from Stonehenge stands Old Sarum,the original Salisbury. Built in the Iron Age, it was also a Norman fort. A hidden jewel of Wiltshire, beautifully sited beside a lake, Old Wardour Castle was built in the late 14th century by John Lord Lovel as a lightly fortified but showy and luxurious residence. Part of the Kevin Costner film "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves", was filmed here. It is the perfect place for a picnic.
