Silbury Hill is the largest prehistoric man-made mound in Europe. It was built over 4,000 years ago in the Neolithic period. Today part of the Avebury World Heritage Site, the monument’s purpose and significance for prehistoric people remains unknown.

This summer, a conservation project to stabilise Silbury Hill is underway. To find out more about this project and the Hill itself, follow the links on the right-hand side of this page.

What are the opening times?

There is no access to the hill itself at any time.    
Viewing area open during reasonable daylight hours, every day.    
Usual facilities may not be available around the Summer Solstice 20-22 June. Please check before you visit.

Admission to the visitor information point and viewing area is free. The visitor information point contains a display about Silbury Hill and the conservation project.

Disabled access (viewing area). Disabled parking is available in Avebury village. A duplicate visitor display for those unable to walk across to Silbury Hill will be housed in the Barn Gallery of the Alexander Keiller Museum in Avebury.

Parking in Avebury is £5 pay and display, but receipt holders are entitled to free museum entry. Parking and museum entry is free for EH and NT members.
