Landscape Investigation

These 'desk-top publications' are intended to be accessible to anyone with an interest in the subject. They typically contain 20 - 100 A4 pages, with detailed descriptions and interpretations of the sites, monuments or landscapes they cover, fully illustrated with maps, plans, drawings, photographs and copies of historic documents where appropriate.

These publications are known as 'grey literature' because they are only available through copyright libraries and English Heritage's own archives (British Library reference number: ISSN 1478-7008). Once you have found out the details of a report (year, title, author, series number and price - between £5 and £15 per report depending on its size) by browsing the lists in the left-hand column, you can obtain a copy by e-mailing your request to the National Monuments Record via the link at the top of each page.
