Local Authority Grants for Conservation Staff

Summary
English Heritage can consider help to establish permanent specialist conservation posts in local planning authorities currently lacking them, or where provision is greatly inadequate in relation to heritage responsibilities.

Our Priorities
All applications are assessed against EH's national and regional investment funding priorities.

Eligible Projects
To qualify for grant core activities of the conservation officer or team must include the input of conservation expertise to statutory casework, and developing a local buildings at risk strategy.

If appropriate conservation policies are not already included in a statutory local plan, part of the postholder's role must be to ensure that they are drafted and incorporated at the next review, and meanwhile issued as supplementary guidance or draft policies.

Grant is not, however, available for the 'repackaging' of existing staff, or to fill gaps created by redundancy within the two years prior to a grant application. Staff appointed will normally be professionally qualified and full members of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC).

Timetable
Applications can be received throughout the year.
